Chief Roberts
POLICE CHIEF BRYAN ROBERTS
 
Chief of Police Bryan Roberts joined the Menlo Park Police Department as Police Chief in 2010. Chief Roberts began his law enforcement career at the Ventura Police Department in 1986. While at Ventura, he steadily promoted and achieved the rank of Lieutenant in 1999. Chief Roberts worked a variety of assignments throughout the department including 17 years as a member of the SWAT team. As a Lieutenant, he worked as a Patrol Watch Commander, Special Operations Commander and Professional Standards Commander. He served as the Executive Director of the Police Activities League for four years and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of America. The Gang Violence Suppression program he managed was recognized as the youth program of the year in 2005 by the National Boys and Girls Club.

In 2006, Chief Roberts accepted a position as a Commander with the newly formed Citrus Heights Police Department. It was a unique opportunity to transition the City of Citrus Heights from county contract services to a standalone municipal police department model serving a population of 90,000. Chief Roberts commanded both the Investigative Services Division and Patrol Services Division during his four-year tenure. He implemented a CompStat model of intelligence led policing which resulted in crime reduction and timely identification and response to crime trends. Chief Roberts led an effort to create a youth diversion program designed to reduce juvenile crime and recidivism rates among youth offenders.

 
Chief Roberts earned a Master of Public Administration from California State University Northridge and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management form Azusa Pacific University. He is currently attending the United States Naval Postgraduate School's Center for Homeland Defense and Security Master Program in Monterey. Chief Roberts is a graduate of the Senior Management Institute of Policing, the California Commission of Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Command College and the POST Supervisory Leadership Institute.

Chief Roberts is a member of the California Police Chiefs Association, California Peace Officers Association, the Police Executive Research Forum and the National Tactical Officers Association. Chief Roberts served in the United States Marines from 1982-1986. He and his wife Toni have five children and one grandchild.
