Program Overview
Menlo Park Academy was developed to build partnerships with the community. The academy offers a transparent overview into the department's structure, services, and personnel.

The academy is an educational experience taught primarily in a classroom setting. Classes are lecture based with class participation and role-playing exercises. Click here for the Academy flier. Academy participants are not expected to perform actual police officer duties and may elect to not take part in any of the practical exercises.
Academy is scheduled to begin on March 5th, 2014 through April 23rd, 2014. The total duration of the academy is 10 sessions. This includes 9 classes and 1 ride-along which will be scheduled by the police department. Participants attend a three-hour class, every Wednesday, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, and one class on a Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm which will include lunch.

Applicant Requirements
The Academy classes are limited to twenty-five students. Attendees must be 16 years or older. Applicants will undergo a background check, to include digital fingerprinting (LiveScan) and a records check, at no cost to the applicant. Applicants previously convicted of a felony will be disqualified. Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on a case by case basis. Click here for Academy rules.

Participants in the academy are granted access to restricted law enforcement facilities. Consequently, the Menlo Park Police Department maintains the right to disqualify any applicant without notification of cause.
