Menlo
Park Police Department media relations unit is responsible
for collecting, coordinating and releasing any information
regarding incidents of public interest within the city limits
of Menlo Park.
The
media relations unit handles releases of information about
crimes, arrests, investigations and bulletins to our local,
state and national news media, or directly to the public.
A public information officer (PIO) or MPPD senior staff member
will be at the scene of any major incident to coordinate media
access and respond to any questions. The media relations officer
also releases information about our department, the work of
it's officers and employees and news about community programs
involving the department.
Press
releases are written and released as incidents involving major
crimes, bulletins about wanted suspects and items of general
community interest occur in Menlo Park. We recognize that
media representatives have deadlines and we will do what we
can to assist in meeting them. A media release may be faxed
directly to local media contacts and/or posted here (on list
at left of page by date) as soon as possible after an incident.
Media releases may include the names, ages and cities of criminal
suspects or victims, photos, places involved and details about
the incident or officers involved.
By
law, the names and other information about juvenile suspects
and victims or the names of victims of certain sex related
crimes (such as rape or molestation) cannot be released to
the public. Our department may also withhold details about
some cases or crimes, to avoid damaging our investigation.
